Big buildings kill signal

Steel, concrete, and low-emissivity glass turn a large building into a barrier. Add distance from the nearest tower and the signal that works fine in the parking lot dies at the front door. The result is dead zones, dropped calls, 911 that won't connect, and two-way radios that go quiet exactly where people need them.

There are really two gaps, and most large buildings have both. The first is everyday cellular coverage that staff, visitors, and operations depend on. The second is public-safety radio coverage that fire and building codes now require, the kind a fire marshal checks before signing off on a Certificate of Occupancy.

Sector solves both, separately or in the same building, and designs them so the systems don't interfere with each other or with the carrier networks.

Dead zones cost a manufacturing floor, a warehouse, a monitored site, or an office building real money in safety, security, and lost time. The bigger the footprint and the more steel and glass in it, the worse it gets. Many of these buildings also trip the fire-code threshold for public-safety radio coverage. Schools and campuses

On a campus, coverage is a safety issue first. A 911 call has to connect from any room, a mass alert has to reach everyone, and a responder's radio has to work the moment they walk in. Courthouses, city halls, and fire and police stations carry the same code-driven requirement for responder radio coverage and FirstNet, on top of everyday cellular. HOW WE APPROACH THIS

Survey before we spec

Before anything gets quoted, we run a pre-installation signal sweep of the building, document the existing levels, and map the dead zones with heat maps. The design comes from the building, not a template.

Design to code and to carrier

Public-safety systems are designed to NFPA, IFC Section 510, and UL 2524. Cellular systems are designed to FCC rules and carrier requirements. We prepare and submit the documentation to your Authority Having Jurisdiction and work the approvals.

One system or two, no interference

Commercial cellular and public-safety radio can share a building, but they have to be kept apart on purpose. We design them to stay network-safe and out of each other's way, which avoids the expensive filtering a careless install needs.

Prove it, then support it

We commission the system, run a final acceptance sweep with grid testing, and produce the documentation the AHJ needs. Then we train your people and put a maintenance plan in place.

One point of contact

Under our maintenance agreement, Sector is your liaison to the manufacturer. If a unit fails, we open the ticket, work it with the manufacturer's engineers, handle the RMA, and get the replacement under warranty, so your team isn't chasing a vendor.

We stay after the install

Quarterly on-site preventive maintenance, 24/7 remote support, and an annual maintenance contract keep the system online and in compliance with its inspection schedule.

HOW A DAS PROJECT RUNS

Site survey and design

Tell us the building. We run a pre-installation signal sweep, map the dead zones, and develop a conceptual design to code.

AHJ submission

We prepare and submit the design documentation to the Authority Having Jurisdiction and work through review and approval.

Coordination

A pre-installation meeting aligns schedule, cable pathways, equipment locations, and the other trades before any cable goes in.

Installation

Amplifiers, donor and interior antennas, cabling, and battery backup go in. Public-safety systems add the annunciator panel and emergency power-off.

Commissioning and acceptance

We configure and commission the system, run the final sweep and grid testing, and support the AHJ inspection.

Training and support

We train your designated personnel and put an ongoing maintenance plan in place.

Common questions about in-building coverage

Often, yes. Many jurisdictions require an Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System under IFC Section 510 and NFPA codes for new or large buildings, and the fire marshal can withhold a Certificate of Occupancy without one. We survey the building and design to your AHJ's requirements.

No. The systems are designed to be network-safe, and where a building needs both commercial and public-safety coverage, we keep them separate so they don't interfere with each other or the macro network.
